Publication Metadata in CERIF: Inspiration by FRBR
نویسندگان
چکیده
The Functional Requirements for Bibliographic Records (FRBR) and its Scholarly Works Application Profile (SWAP) are used to inspire the representation of complex real world situations in the publication part of the Common European Research Information Format (CERIF), the model for Current Research Information Systems (CRIS). CERIF is found to have room for different approaches to representing metadata of scholarly publications, which could hamper the interoperability of CRIS. To lessen that risk, we propose guidelines for representing scholarly publication metadata in CERIF; our design goal is to enhance the utility of CRIS in supporting the functions of scientific communication. The guidelines are formulated using the notions of Scholarly Work, Expression and Manifestation from FRBR/SWAP. © 2014 The Authors. Published by Elsevier B.V. The aim of this study is to find out the bibliographic relationships between the metadata records in the National Library and Archives of Iran (NLAI) according to FRBR model, in order to represent the Knowledge network of Iranian-Islamic publications. To achieve this objective, the content analysis method was used. The study population includes metadata records for books in NLAI for four biblio...
متن کاملResearch information management: the CERIF approach
In the context of the wide research environment we introduce the CERIF (Common European Research Information Format) data model which (a) has a richer structure than the usual metadata standards used in research information; (b) separates base entities from link entities thus providing flexibility in expressing role based temporal relationships; (c) defines a distinct semantic layer so that rel...
متن کاملComparative Study of Metadata for Scientific Information: The place of CERIF in CRISs and Scientific Repositories
Metadata provides the humanand machine-accessible gateway to data, improves data to information, and provides the semantic context within which knowledge can be induced from information. Metadata is the means for using together scientific data from heterogeneous sources. A CRIS commonly holds data which, while useful in itself, commonly is also metadata describing more detailed data and informa...
متن کاملData Intensive Science: Shades of Grey
The vast majority of research output is grey; white (peer reviewed scholarly publications) forms a minor proportion. Historically, grey material was generated and used within an organisation. However, in recent years some researchrelevant grey material is being made openly available. Among grey outputs, research datasets are the largest proportion by volume and increasingly these are being made...
متن کاملEnhancing Interoperability of FRBR-Based Metadata
The Variations/FRBR project at Indiana University is experimenting with implementing the Functional Requirements for Bibliographic Records (FRBR) conceptual model in order to further research on next-generation library catalogs and promote the re-usability and interoperability of FRBR-based metadata. This paper describes the use of FRBR in some system implementations, discusses the first steps ...
